National Chamber unveils NBEA Awards

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka will hold the National Business Excellence Awards 2022 for the 18th year in May 2023.

Being one of the pioneering Awards Competitions initiated in 2004, by the National Chamber of Commerce, the National Business Excellence Awards (NBEA), has maintained highe standards and gained much recognition and prestige amongst the business community, a Chamber spokesman said.

The emerging trends such as adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasis on reduction of carbon emission, transforming nature of workplace, increasing tendency of capital is getting attracted to trusted, ethical, environmental-friendly, socially responsible and with sound governance structure (ESG) and the purpose of the institutions more aligned towards creating long-term sustainability and creating value for all in society and not restricting to selected few are among some of the aspects incorporate into the structure of the application leading NBEA.

The competition comprises categories – Extra Large, Large, Medium, Small and Micro – and diversified industry sectors: it also creates the opportunity for 29 industry sectors to secure awards, category-wise or on evaluation criteria. Ninety-two awards will be presented this year (NBEA 2022), including Overall Excellence Winners of Gold, Silver and Bronze.

The preliminary evaluations will be carried out by a Technical and Financial Panel headed by the Chairman of the Financial and Technical Panel, Sanath Fernando, Partner, Assurance, at Ernst & Young and other panel members: Nalin Wijekoon, CEO, People’s Merchant Finance, Gamini Karunathilake, Business Consultant and former CEO of Merchant Bank of SL PLC, Shyamalie Amaratunga, former Head of several Divisions of Merchant Bank of SL PLC, Priyantha Herath, Founder/CEO, PNB Holdings (Pvt) Ltd., Nishani Perera, Partner, Moore Aiyar and Director of Moore Consulting (Pvt) Ltd, Sanjeewa Bandaranayake, Head of Projects, People’s Leasing & Finance PLC, Kamaya Perera, Partner, Advisory, Head of Management Consulting , KPMG, Muzawwir Manzeer, Partner, Deloitte Sri Lanka (SJMS), Jerad Dias, Partner – Audit and Assurance, BDO Partners, Malinda Boyagoda, Partner – Industry Leader for Financial Services, PWC

The shortlisted applications will be reviewed and interviewed by a panel of judges to ascertain the best corporate companies as award winners. Selection of winners will be made by an eminent Panel of Judges chaired by Sunil G Wijesinha, Past President – National Chamber.

The awards ceremony will be conducted in May 2023 at a venue to be announced.

The President and the Council of the National Chamber cordially invite the business community of Sri Lanka to participate in the National Business Excellence Awards (NBEA) which the widely recognised as the prestigious symbol of the Excellence in doing business in Sri Lanka.
