Honda to hike car prices by up to Rs 30,000 from January, Details inside

New Delhi: Japanese automaker Honda Motor has said that it plans to hike the prices of its entire range from January 2023 to comply with the upcoming stricter emission norms. While many other brands in the market like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Renault, Tata Motors, Kia India and MG Motor have already announced a price hike from January.

What did the company say?

With regard to the price hike, Kunal Behl, vice-president, sales and marketing, Honda Cars India, told PTI that the company will increase the prices of its products from January 23, taking into account the continuous rise in raw material input costs and upcoming regulatory requirements. Will be This increase will be done on the basis of different models up to ₹ 30,000.

What has changed in the standards?

The second phase of BS-VI emission norms in the country will come into effect from April 2023, according to which, vehicles will be required to have an onboard self-diagnostic device to monitor real-time driving emission levels. This equipment will continuously monitor key parts like catalytic converter and oxygen sensor to meet the emission standards. Along with this, vehicles will now also have programmed fuel injectors to control the level of fuel burning.
Apart from this, monitoring systems for semiconductor throttle, crankshaft position, air intake pressure, engine temperature and emission content such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, CO2, sulfur etc. will have to be upgraded.

Currently, Honda Cars India sells its fourth generation City, New Honda City, Honda Amaze, Honda WR V, Honda Jazz and Honda City Hybrid cars in India.
