Six teacher trainees remanded

The Galle Additional Magistrate ordered yesterday (28) that six of the seven teacher trainees who were arrested and presented to Court in connection with the assaulting and injuring of a group of junior teacher trainees at the Akmeemana Ruhuna National College of Education  be remanded until November 30 and the seventh suspect be released on bail of Rs. 50,000 thousand rupees.

According to the Akmeemana Police, 14 student teachers who were injured in an altercation between two groups of teacher trainees at the Akmeemana Ruhuna National College of Education on Saturday had been admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. A group of final year student teachers who are undergoing training at this College had attacked a group of second year teaching students after an argument.

Fourteen second year student teachers were injured. The Deputy Dean of the College had lodged a complaint with the Police.
