IUBF Convener Ven. Siridhamma Thera bailed

The convener of the Inter-University Bhikku Federation (IUBF)  Ven. Galwewa Siridhamma Thera who was detained under Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) was enlarged on bail yesterday. The order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate T.N.L .Mahawatta. The Additional Magistrate made this order subsequent to the Attorney General’s advice. Ven. Galwewa Siridhamma Thera was released on two sureties of Rs.500,000 each.The Magistrate also imposed a travel ban on him and also ordered Thera to report to the Criminal Investigations Department last Sunday of each month.

The Magistrate further barred Ven.Siridhamma Thera from making any comment regarding the ongoing court case to the media. He was warned that if he conducts himself violently again, his bail will be cancelled and he would be returned to remand custody.

Senior Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department informed the Magistrate that a comprehensive investigation had been launched pertaining to the incidents that took place between March 31 and July 31,2022.

SDSG Dileepa Piries also stated that further investigations are conducting into Convenor of the Inter University Student’s Federation Wasantha Mudalige.

On November 17, the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court had ordered to remand Wasantha Mudalige and Siridhamma Thera, until the Attorney General’s orders are received. The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for December 12. Ven. Galwewa Siridhamma Thera who was released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court was subsequently remanded till December 6 after being produced before Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
