New Delhi: As India assumes the presidency of G20 next month, the government has convened an all-party meet in New Delhi on December 5 to brief about the country’s preparations for the G20 meetings.
Citing sources, news agency ANI reported that this meeting is going to take place at 5 pm on December 5 during which the government will brief political parties about India assuming the presidency of the G20.
A letter of invitation has been sent to the presidents of all political parties to attend this particular meeting.
Sources further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Leader of House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi will be attending this meeting on behalf of the government. G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant is also expected to attend the meeting.
During this meeting, a detailed presentation will be made for the political parties for the lead-up to the G20 presidency for India and what it means for the coming year, the sources confirmed to ANI.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress president Mamata Banerjee had said on Thursday that she will travel to the national capital on December 5 to take part in the meeting.
Indonesia had earlier this month handed over the G20 presidency to India for the coming year at the Bali summit with Prime Minister Modi terming it a matter of pride for every Indian citizen.
G20 or Group of 20 is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies.
It comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union (EU).
