Colombo Port’s ECT, WCT to be completed in 2024

Construction work of the East and the West Container Terminals of the Colombo Port is expected to be completed by 2024,

Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Additional Managing Director Susantha Abeysiriwardena said.

The construction of the East Container Terminal (ECT) is implemented in three stages, where the stage-I will be completed by mid-2023.

This Terminal is spread over an area of 75 hectares and is 1,320 meters long. The total estimated cost of the project is USD 550 million.The West Container Terminal (WCT) project implemented at an estimated cost of USD 700 million is a joint operation by the Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) with its local partner John Keells Holdings (JKH) and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). Construction work of the WCT was scheduled to be completed within five years, but the companies involved in the construction work have informed the project could be completed within three years. Both projects are expected to be completed in 2024, the Additional Managing Director said.
