Ambalantota Police detected 25 kg of heroin at Koggalla, Ambalantota on Thursday succeeded in recovering another 3kg of heroin from a house in Mulanagoda in Angunukolapelessa yesterday.
Acting on a tip off officers of the Ambalnthota police raided a house in Koggalla and found 25kg of heroin hidden in two sacks among a stack of paddy sacks, while the 3kg of heroin taken into custody in Angunukolapelessa was said to have been found concealed in an empty LP gas cylinder which was said to have been purchased by a scrap iron dealer from a house in Kudawella. The scrap iron dealer is said to have found the drugs when the cylinder was cut open after which it had been hidden in a house at Mulanagoda.
Police have taken five suspects including one female into custody in this regard.
DIG Mahesh Senarathne, DIG in charge of the Matara and Hambantota Police Divisions said that it was the largest consignment of herointaken in to custody by the police at any one time.
