60% given pipe-borne water - Ministry

Sixty percent of the country’s population has been provided with pipe-borne water supply by the end of October 2022, the Water Supply Ministry said.

It is expected to provide the other 40 per cent with pipe-borne water by 2025 under the ‘Water for All’ initiative, the Ministry said.

The ‘Water for All’ is an initiative implemented from 2020 to 2025 to increase the pipe-borne water supply to 100 per cent.

The project is expected to be completed at a cost of Rs.2, 000 billion.

Of this amount, Rs.176 billion has been spent so far from 2020. Sri Lanka’s pipe-borne water supply remained at 50 per cent by 2019.
