Student electrocuted at temple’s Katina procession

Dodangoda police say that a school student who was spinning fireballs during a procession held in a temple in Dodangoda died due to electrocution and two other youths were injured.

The person who died in the accident is Gihan Kavindu Wickramaratne, 17, a student of Miriswatta National School in Dodangoda.

The dead student and a group of people were participating in the procession organised for the temple’s Katina Pinkama. The iron ring used to spin the fireballs had touched   an electric wire temporarily drawn from the temple to a tree. When the young man was electrocuted and fell on the ground two young men who were near him had tried to help him and in the process they too were electrocuted.They have been admitted to hospital.
