Russia, Belarus schols for Sri Lankans

Education Minister Susil Premajayantha yesterday said that arrangements were made to offer scholarships granted by the Governments of Russia and Belarus for Sri Lankan students within three months after him being appointed as the Education Minister.

He said that the Ministry has not called applications for higher education scholarships offered by these countries due to the COVID-19 situation in the country.

Premajayantha said that applications were called from suitable candidates after publicizing scholarship opportunities in Russia and Belarus on the Ministry website.

Speaking at an event at the Colombo District Secretariat, the Education Minister said he reached the agreements aiming at increasing scholarship opportunities for Sri Lanka during his recent official visits to Russia and Belarus. “The scholarship will be awarded in two ways. Scholarship awarding countries will screen the applications and select the scholarship winners directly based on the Z-Score and the Education and Higher Education Ministry will select the scholarship winners based on the Z-Score of the applicants.
