Unfortunately many Sri Lankans including Parliamentarians and politicians have no proper understanding about the seriousness of the economic crisis the country is facing today, said Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardana.
He said President Ranil Wickremesinghe is the only leader who has a sound knowledge on the country’s economy and is capable of providing solutions to the present crisis.
The Minister stated this addressing a media workshop held at the Department of Government Information auditorium on Friday (7).
According to the Minister, the economic crisis worsened during the past few years as former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was misled by someone asking him to provide homegrown solutions to this crisis.
Minister Dr. Gunawardana pointed out that due to such wrong instructions, Sri Lanka failed to raise nearly US$ 12 billion from 2019 to 2022 from International Sovereign Bonds (ISB), which was the practice of the previous governments until then.
The Minister also said no homegrown solution would solve the present crisis as no government would stay in power for more than a week if it fails to open Letters of Credits to import fuel and other essential items.
