Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in favor of reservation for hill people and quota will be implemented in the near future. He said, “Justice Sharma has recommended the Scheduled Tribe status to the hill people. PM Modi is going to implement the recommendations.”
He said that the Pahadis, Gujjars and Bakarwals had to face discrimination earlier as they did not get reservation. He also allayed fears that reservation for hills would adversely affect other backward communities such as Gurjars and Bakarwals, who are recognized as STs in Jammu and Kashmir.
