‘Keep Indian traditions in mind’: MP Home Minister on Aamir Khan-Kiara Advani’s bank ad

New Delhi: Aamir Khan and Kiara Advani recently teamed for the first time on a bank commercial, but it did not go down well with netizens, sparking outrage on social media for allegedly offending Hindu beliefs. The advertisement depicts Khan and Advani as newlyweds travelling to their home after their wedding and discussing how neither of them wept during the bidaai (a post-wedding ritual) before arriving at their home. It is then revealed that Aamir, who plays a son-in-law, moves into his wife’s house for the sake of her elderly father. In a twist on the age-old ceremony, the husband takes the first step in their new home, as opposed to the bride in Indian tradition.

Now, reacting to the advertisement, Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra on Wednesday talked about it and said: “I have seen actor Aamir Khan’s advertisement for a private bank after receiving a complaint. I request him to not do such advertisements by keeping the Indian traditions and customs in mind, I do not consider it appropriate. Such things about Indian traditions, customs, and deities keep coming, especially (from) Aamir Khan. The sentiments of a particular religion are hurt by such acts,” reported PTI.

In terms of Aamir and Kiara’s work, the couple has several exciting initiatives in the works. The 3 Idiots actor, who was most recently seen in Laal Singh Chaddha alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, will next be featured in RS Prasanna’s adaption of the Spanish classic Campeones.

After the horror-comedy flick Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Kiara will rejoin with Kartik Aaryan for SatyaPrem Ki Katha. Following that, the Lust Stories actress will appear in Govinda Naam Mera and RC-15, a Telugu film starring Ram Charan.
