Harsha resigns to make way for Charitha to COPE

The Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday said SJB MP Harsha de Silva who was nominated to the COPE Committee has resigned and requested that former COPE Chairman Prof. Charitha Herath be included as a member of the COPE Committee, in his place. The Opposition Leader said that the name of Prof. Charitha Herath  would be proposed for the vacancy caused by the voluntary resignation of MP Harsha de Silva, who had been proposed to the COPE committee.

Premadasa also said that he had made public requests on several occasions to give the chairmanship of the COPE and COPA committees to the Opposition. He noted that the Speaker and the President were of the same opinion when the speaker and the current president were the prime minister, but today it has changed.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, the opposition leader asked whether the proposal for the twenty-second constitutional amendment would be presented to the parliament, and if it was not, he also requested to bring the twenty-first amendment proposal presented by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya to the parliament. Meanwhike the Opposition Leader said that due to the excessive increase in the price of fuel and kerosene, the fishing community is facing a serious problem.Premadasa stated so raising a question under the Standing Orders 27(2).

Premadasa also said that due to the rapid increase in the prices of fuel and other inputs required for the fishing industry, the fishing industry is facing an acute crisis.

He said that the supply of fish food, which is the largest and cheapest source of protein in Sri Lanka, is under threat at a time when child malnutrition is also on the rise.
