CSE makes strong comeback

Colombo bourse re-energized yesterday reversing the steep drop witnessed during the last two trading sessions led by price gains in active local investor backed stocks.

Thus, All-Share Price Index increased by 81.9 points (+0.9%) to close at 9,319.0 for the day whilst S&P SL20 Index also gained by 33.6 points (+1.2%) to close at 2,908.8. Sampath Bank, Lanka IOC, Ambeon Holdings, ACL Cables and Hayleys remained as the top negative contributors to the ASPI during the day.

Further, broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 2,622.4 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs. 4,083.5 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 102,720.3k against the 12-month average daily volume of 192,036.8k.191,836.9 k. Banks Capital Goods and Banks mostly contributed to yesterday’s turnover.

The top turnover generators for yesterday were Lanka IOC Rs.567.3 mn (+1.8%), Expolanka Holdings Rs.185.5 mn (+1.0%), Dankotuwa Porcelain Rs. 167.8 mn (+21.9), John Keells Holdings Rs. 151.8 mn (-0.4%), and First Capital Holdings Rs. 142.2 mn (+13.6%). Foreigners recorded a net inflow of Rs. 12.1 mn yesterday. Foreign purchases stood at

Rs. 77.3 mn whilst total foreign sales amounted to Rs.65.2 mn. Top foreign buying counters LIOC LKR. 15.7 mn, MELS LKR. 11.3 mn, RCL LKR. 7.6 mn, ACL LKR. 5.4 mn, EXPO LKR. 2.7 mn and NTB LKR. 2.4 mn whilst top foreign selling counters were JKH LKR.(37.2) mn, TILE LKR. (3.5) mn, COMB LKR. (1.2) mn, CFVF LKR. (1.2) mn, KHL LKR. (0.6) mn and HHL LKR. (0.6) mn. Further, off-board transaction was witnessed in People’s Leasing & Finance (Rs.30.0 mn) yesterday. Additionally, SMB Leasing (Non-Voting), Dankotuwa Porcelain, Radiant Gems, Taprobane Holdings and Ambeon Holdings were the top price gainers yesterday whilst Convenience Foods, Senkadagala Finance, Sigiriya Vilage, Ceylon Hospitals and Serendib Land were the top price losers. Further, Browns Investments, SMB Leasing (Voting & Non-Voting), First Capital Holdings, Dankotuwa Porcelain and, LOLC Finance were amongst the most actively traded stocks yesterday.
