Cardinal blames rulers’ folly and robbery for country’s present plight

Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith says that Sri Lanka has become a country of uncertainty owing to the follies of the rulers and economic cost of theft, corruption and violence. Delivering the homily at the Festive High Mass of the 150th Jubilee Rosary Church, Aluthgama last week, the Cardinal said that the rulers came to power by creating disharmony among the races and trying to create religious division using the Easter Sunday terror attacks. He pointed out that there was a need of leadership for a social transformation.

“We must be ready to take the leadership and work for the changes we demand. Do not wait or expect someone else to fight and win your demands. If we let this corrupt system continue, we cannot expect anything but more and more destruction,” the Cardinal said.

He said that it is not only the responsibility of Christians to work for a social transformation but the duty of all citizen of the country irrespective of their ethnic differences and religious beliefs. All must strive for change.

The Vespers Service was taken by Rev Fr Janaka Sashimal Costa, the newly appointed Parish Priest of Beruwala.The annual feast celebrations were organized by Rev Fr Mahesh Krishantha, Parish Priest with the assistance of the Parish Council.Laying of the foundation stone for a new mission house by the Cardinal and the new parish priest followed.
