St. Anthony’s College, Kandy clinched the All-Island School Games Under-19 Seven-A-Side Rugby Tournament when they defeated D. S. Senanayake (DSS) College, Colombo 19-12 in the final encounter played at the Sooriyage Stadium in Bandarawela.
The Antonians reached the final by overcoming their hometown rivals Dharmaraja College 28-12 in the semi-final while DSS trounced Maliyadeva College 21-0 in their semi-final fixture. Earlier, in the quarterfinals, St. Anthony’s beat St. Aloysius’ College, Galle 29-0, Dharmaraja defeated Dutugemunu MV, Buttala 29-0, DSS routed Kegalle MV 61-0 and Maliyadeva edged out Ananda College, Colombo 12-7.
Tharusha Kumara of St. Anthony’s was named Best Player of the Tournament. Meanwhile, Dharmaraja secured the third place of the tournament when they defeated Maliyadeva 33-5 in the consolation final.
