According to the Meegoda police, a person said to be an additional director of the Department of Census and Statistics has committed suicide. The police say that the deceased is a (58)-year-old resident of Walgama area of Matara.
It is said that this person met with this accident when he came to his daughter’s house in Homagama Kiriwatthuduwa to seek treatment for a chronic disease about a month ago.
At the time of the incident, the wife, who was waiting upstairs to have dinner, was coming to the kitchen when she heard a noise and saw her husband’s body on fire.
According to the police, the wife, with the help of others extinguished the fire and he was admitted to the Homagama Base Hospital for treatment where he died.
