Writer K.S.Sivakumaran passes away

The death occurred on Friday of veteran journalist, writer and literary critic Kailayar Sellanainar Sivakumaran, more popularly known as K.S. Sivakumaran (86), a regular contributor to the Sunday Observer and the Daily News.

Sivakumaran was a trilingual writer who especially focused on Tamil cinema and Tamil and English literary works. He has published 30 books in Tamil and two in English. He worked for the “Virakesari” as a journalist for a number of years.

He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the sixth edition of the Jaffna International Cinema Festival in December 2020 for his contribution to local cinema.

He also occasionally wrote on Sinhala books and movies. He was also a well-known radio and TV personality. He worked as a teacher for some time. An old boy of Hindu College, Colombo and St.Joseph’s College, Colombo, Sivakumaran later graduated from the University of Peradeniya. He is survived by two children and four grandchildren.

The remains will be at A.F. Raymond Funeral Parlour on Tuesday (20) from 8.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. after which the funeral will take place at the General Cemetery, Kanatte.
