Turkish Mission to confirm identity of students found by Ukrainian Forces

The External Affairs Ministry is trying to ascertain whether seven persons who were said to be rescued by Ukrainian Forces are Sri Lankans or not.

“Parents should have reached out to us by now if they are Sri Lankan students but we did not receive any complaint from anyone till yesterday. We must know whether they are Sri Lankan or not,” a Ministry official said.

Media speculated on Sunday that seven Sri Lankan students who had been held by Russian Forces since March were rescued in the liberated territories of the Kharkiv region, Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy said on Friday. “Our mission in Turkey accredited to Ukraine is checking with the Ukrainian authorities. We will have an update today,” an official said.
