Treasury monitoring all aid distributions

The Finance Ministry yesterday emphasized that no grant, aid or loan received by the government institutions from abroad is allowed to be given directly to the people without Treasury approval.

A senior Treasury official said they have paid attention to recent reports that aid received from abroad is distributed directly to the public by themselves to the groups in need of relief due to the economic difficulties that have arisen at present.

He said that foreign institutions have not been given any sanction to distribute loans or grant funds received from abroad to Sri Lanka directly to the people.

He explained that a formal procedure and administrative structure has been established to provide necessary relief and services to the people of Sri Lanka and no one can distribute money or provide any other assistance outside of such a process.
