Tata to attach regen modes, cruise control in Tiago EV

New Delhi: Tata has announced that the Tiago EV hatchback will get multi-mode regenerative braking, cruise control and sports mode. The electric hatchback will be launched on September 28 and will be the brand’s most economical electric car.

Tata Tiago EV: New features

Tata’s third EV will get multi-mode regenerative braking, which was first introduced with the Nexon EV Max and then also available with the Nexon EV Prime. It is currently not available with the Tigor EV but can be expected soon as all other EVs in the Tata portfolio have this feature.

Regenerative braking allows users to recharge batteries while riding, and the highest level of recuperation helps when riding with one pedal.

Another feature that is missing on the Tigor EV and will be available on the Tiago EV is cruise control. The hatchback also gets a drive selector with sport mode.

Tata Tiago EV: Expected powertrains

Tata is yet to announce the specifications of the Tiago EV, but it is expected to share the platform and powertrain with the Tigor EV. The electric sedan is currently offered with two powertrains – one for private customers and the other on XPres-T for fleet operators.

The Tiago EV could get the base engine offered on the XPres-T, which produces 41bhp and 105Nm of torque, along with a 21.3kWh battery offering 213km of claimed range. The battery can be charged using a 15kW DC fast charger in a claimed 1 hour and 50 minutes.

The electric hatchback could also be offered with the Ziptron power unit from the Tigor EV, which produces 75bhp and 170Nm of torque and draws power from a larger 26kWh lithium-ion battery that offers a claimed range of 306km. This battery pack can be charged with a more powerful 25kW DC fast charger in a claimed 1 hour and 5 minutes.

Tata Tiago EV: Expected design highlights

The soon-to-be-launched Tiago EV will retain the same design as the current ICE-powered Tiago. In the interior, however, it will get blue accents similar to those on the Tigor and Nexon EV. Interestingly, the Tigor EV has a split battery with one part located in the trunk. How Tata packs the battery into the EV hatchback remains to be seen.

Tata Tiago EV: Expected Price and Booking

The Tiago EV is expected to be ₹1 lakh cheaper than the Tigor EV; a similar price difference is seen with their ICE-powered counterparts. While Tata hasn’t started taking deliveries, some dealers are unofficially accepting bookings for the Tiago EV, our sources said.
