T20 World Cup: Afghanistan announces 15-members squad

New Delhi: Afghanistan have announced their 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, starting in Australia from 16 October. Mohammad Nabi, who led Afghanistan in the recently held Asia Cup 2022, has been given the responsibility of captaincy again.

Samiullah Shinwari, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Afsar Zazai, Karim Janat and Noor Ahmed were part of the Asia Cup squad. These players missed out on a place in the 15-man squad. At the same time, middle-order batsman Darvesh Rasuli, all-rounder Kais Ahmed and right-arm fast bowler Salim Safi have been included in the team.

The 22-year-old Rasuli made his international debut earlier this year. He has been included in the squad after recovering from a finger injury and performing well in the Shapeza Cricket League 2022. Kais Ahmed has also made a comeback in the team.

He last played a T20I series against Bangladesh in March 2022, while 20-year-old Salim Safi got his first international call. Afsar Zazai, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Rahmat Shah and Gulbadin Naib have been designated as Traveling Reserves
