During an operation to find a group of underworld criminals, nine including a member of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Kotikawatta Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha, who were staying with alleged underworld criminals in a house at Jayanthi Mawatha, Himbutana, have been arrested by officers of the Western Province South District Crime Division.
This raid was done on September16 night. According to police, the raid was carried out based on information that a group of followers of dead underworld leader Angoda Lokka were staying at the house with firearms.
Some well-known criminals were in the house at the time of the raid, police said.
The police did not find any firearms from the house but they had found 30 grams of the drug ice and two cannabis cigars.
The police have taken steps to present the suspects who were in possession of the drugs in court. They were released on bail of Rs.100,000 each and the police has been notified to present the charge sheets on September 21. Four other suspects including the PS member have been released on police bail after questioning.
