Printing school textbooks cost Rs.16.5 Mn - Minister

Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha yesterday said that Rs.16.5 million had to be spent on printing school textbooks this year, although only Rs 4.5 million was spent on it previously.

The Minister said that the government had to incur this expenditure, in the midst of many challenges and the focus is on establishing an education development fund for school education. The Minister was speaking at a ceremony held at the Education Ministry premises yesterday to felicitate the students who performed exceptionally at the 2021 GCE Advanced Level examination.

The Minister said that at a time when the government has to provide what the people need in the midst of many challenges, the need to establish such a fund is strongly felt.
