No pay leave for upto five years for public officials

The government has decided to grant no-pay leave for pensionable public servants, the Government Information Department said. As per the Cabinet decision taken in June this year, a committee of senior  officers were appointed to make recommendations regarding the provision of local leave for pensionable Government officers without causing any prejudice to the seniority and the Committee has already submitted their recommendations.

During this week’s Cabinet meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers has granted consent to the proposal submitted by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardane in his capacity as the Public Administration, Inland Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister to implement the recommendations made by the said committee regarding the granting of no-pay leave up to a maximum period of five years. They have been given the opportunity to seek employment in the private sector or engage in business activities during the said period.
