Nigerian man arrested for financial fraud

The officers of the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department have succeeded in arresting a Nigerian man who is engaged in financial fraud by posing as a doctor, engineer and other people on social media.

The Criminal Investigation Department states that the arrested Nigerian came to Sri Lanka in 2017.

The Criminal Investigation Department is conducting several investigations regarding several deceptions by a group of Nigerians posing as professionals such as doctors and engineers living in Europe through social media networks and making promises of marriage to women in this country through Facebook.

Investigations were being conducted in connection with frauds of lakhs of rupees from women by claiming that these people need money to clear valuable gift parcels from customs.

The Nigerian was arrested when he came to withdraw money from an ATM nachine in Maharagama deposited by a woman who was decieved.
