Litro now accepts dollar payments; new feature targeting expats allows remote ordering from anywhere in the world

Local market leader in LPG, Litro Gas Lanka Limited, recently introduced a new feature on their Home Delivery App allowing expats to order LPG for their loved ones back home & make payments via USD. This is a creative addition to their already extensive portfolio of services as well as a creative solution to the current dollar crunch facing Sri Lanka.

Commenting on the new feature, Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka Limited Muditha Peiris noted: “As the market leader in Sri Lanka for LPG with over 80% market share, we are constantly looking for new ways to improve our user experience. As such, the new feature allows expats to arrange convenient doorstep delivery of LPG for their loved ones as well as to pay in USD for same which is a much-needed respite for the economy.”

“Our extensive distributor network ensures all deliveries are swiftly arranged within a short period of time. This relieves the consumer of having to travel back and forth with a cylinder, which is both tedious and costly” he added.

The Chairman further said that this feature was introduced as a tribute to expats/migrant workers who keep the economy afloat. He said that this was a simple gesture to honour their hard work by making life easy for their loved ones back home.

Since the appointment of the new Chairman, many supply side issues of Litro have been resolved and, despite the inflation, the Company has managed to revise the product prices giving customers a relief during the present economic downturn. This is particularly noteworthy as it disproves speculations of a price hike.

Litro was the first essential service to eliminate long queues amidst the forex crisis. This was done by procuring 100,000 MT of LPG, the requirement for four months, with World Bank funding. Litro also singlehandedly catered to the domestic segment by delivering 2.2mn cylinders over a period of 20 days when the main competitor temporarily suspended operations.

Litro continues to be one of Sri Lanka’s few profit-making SOEs setting the precedent for other State-Owned businesses. This progress is attributable to Litro’s focus on technology & innovation. Litro’s Home Delivery App, launched in July 2020 at the peak of the global pandemic, is an example for the Company’s passion to make products & services more broadly accessible via technology.
