Girl dies in wild elephant attack

A seven-year-old girl succumbed due to a wild elephant attack in Ampara.

The victim, Tharushi Sathsarani Ariyaratne was a resident of Thimbirigolla, Ampara. She passed away while being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.

The post-mortem inquiry was conducted last Sunday by Peradeniya Teaching Hospital Coroner Amal Jayawardena.

The father of the deceased girl, retired soldier Nihal Pradeep Ariyaratne, said his wife, two children and he came under a wild elephant attack when they were riding the bicycle through Bakmitiyawa Forest Reserve, in Damana, Ampara.
