Police have started an investigation to arrest a father who has allegedly sold his 7-day-old infant son to a woman for Rs. 50,000.
“The woman who has allegedly bought the infant from the father and the person who struck the deal have already been taken into custody,” Anuradhapura Police said.
The woman in Police custody is a resident of Wahalkada in Kebithigollewa while the broker is a three wheeler driver from Anuradhapura.
The suspects have been arrested following a complaint made by the infant’s mother who told Police that the father had fled the area after striking the deal.
Police said that the couple are not married but stayed in different places as husband and wife. Police also said that the man is a resident of Matale while woman is a resident of Colombo.
