Circular on public officials retiring at 60 issued

A circular has been issued reducing the compulsory retirement age of public officials to 60 years.

Accordingly Public Administration Ministry Secretary has informed that the mandatory retirement age of all public officials will be considered as sixty years effective from January 1, 2023.

According to the new circular, officers who are currently serving and over 60 and who complete 60 years on or before December 31 will have the opportunity to take early retirement on or before December 31.

Officials planning to retire should get their retirement applications approved by the concerned appointing authority according to the proper procedure and submit them to the Director General of Pensions as required.

If it is necessary to get any specialist service after reaching the mandatory retirement age of sixty years, it should be done according to the relevant circulars.

The extension of the minimum service period from 5 years to 10 years for the officers who are entitled to pension will continue in the same way.

This circular applies to officers other than the officers of the Judicial Service as determined by the Judicature Act.
