Chup Box Office collection Day 1: R Balki thriller performs better than expected

New Delhi: Chup: Revenge of the Artist, a thriller starring Sunny Deol and Dulquer Salmaan, had a strong opening weekend thanks to National Cinema Day. On its first day, the morning programmes had a 50–60% occupancy rate. Chup, which had tickets cheap at just Rs 75 on Cinema Day, overtook Brahmastra as the second most popular movie with moviegoers. According to a trade report, the R Balki-directed movie made between Rs. 2 and 2.50 crore on Friday. If the prices had been average, the movie would have made a fortune.

In Chup: Revenge of the Artist, R Balki’s direction and writing have won unanimous praise. Many showered Chup with lavish praises and the film opened to an extremely positive response.

Still it will be a decent first-day number which should go over 2 crore nett or even 2.50 crore nett. The film would not have gotten this sort of start if it was at normal rates so the film has got a huge benefit from lower rates. But it remains to be seen what happens post-Friday when rates go back to normal as it will have to find an audience then also,” BOI added.

Chup: Revenge of The Artist depicts the tale of an artist who becomes a serial killer after having his work roundly criticised by the critics. The artist in the movie murders the critics and, as a mark of his execution, leaves a “star” mark on their bodies that resembles the number of stars that critics frequently award to movies or television shows.

Pooja Bhatt and Shreya Dhanwanthary play crucial roles in the psychological thriller as well. The film has been presented by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Jayantilal Gada, Anil Naidu, and Gauri Shinde.
