The Peradeniya University said that the attack on a group of Law Faculty students was carried by a group of Arts Faculty students.
The students of the Law Department are against ragging (freshman torture) and the relevant attack was carried out by a group of students from the Arts Faculty in favour of it.
Two female students and two male students who were assaulted are receiving treatment at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.
The Law Department of the University of Peradeniya is maintained under the Faculty of Arts and accordingly, the assault took place between two groups of students of the Faculty of Arts.
