Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya has called for a report from the Superintendent of Welikada Prison regarding the alleged incident of prison officials obstructing the National People’s Power (NPP) Member of Parliament Dr. Harini Amarasuriya who went to the women’s section of the Welikada Prison to inquire about the well-being of actress Damitha Abeyratne.
Dr.Harini Amarasooriya had stated that when she went to the women’s section of Welikada Prison, the prison officials had forced her to stay outside the prison for about 45 minutes.
The MP also alleged that the prison officials violated the privileges of a Member of Parliament and interfered with her on that occasion.
After that, when Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa came to the prison to inquire about Damitha Abeyratne’s well-being, the prison officials arranged for Harini Amarasuriya to go there as well.
After learning that Damitha Abeyratne is sick, the MP also had requested the authorities to admit her to the Prisons Hospital immediately.
