New Delhi: A heavily camouflaged test mule of Tata Altroz premium hatchback was recently caught on camera. It is not yet clear whether this is an updated version of its hatch, an electric iteration or a CNG variant.
While the camouflage has managed to cover all the design details of the Tata Altroz 2023, the rear defogger and monotone alloy wheels can be noticed. The current model comes with two-tone alloys.
Just so you know, the Altroz was introduced in early 2020 in five trim levels – XE, XM, XT, XZ and XZ (O). It’s arch-rival Maruti Suzuki Baleno recently received a mid-life update that helped boost its monthly sales. To stand up to the competition, the domestic automaker could come up with the Tata Altroz 2023 facelift.
Currently, Tata’s premium hatchback is available with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine (86PS/113Nm), a 1.2-litre i-turbo (110PS/140Nm) and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel (90PS/200Nm). While the naturally aspirated petrol unit delivers a fuel economy of 18.53 kmpl, the iTurbo promises 18.13 kmpl. The oil burner returns a claimed mileage of 23.03 km/l.
Tata has been testing Altroz CNG for some time now. Its prototype has already been examined by an emissions testing facility. If launched, the model is likely to come with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a factory-fitted CNG kit.
Talking about the Tata Altroz EV, the electric hatchback made its public debut at the Auto Expo 2022. The model features a closed grille, upgraded front and rear bumpers, star pattern front air skirt, newly designed alloy wheels with blue accents, blacked out doors luggage compartment and relocated badges. Inside, it has lighter upholstery with a rotary gear selector.
While the official specifications of the Altroz EV are yet to be revealed, it is likely to come with Tata’s Ziptron powertrain. The kit includes a permanent magnet AC motor driving the front wheels through a single gearbox. The electric range of the hatchback will be around 250-300 km per charge.
