141 passengers evacuated following smoke on Air India plane on runway at Muscat

New Delhi: An Air India Express plane had to land in Muscat on Wednesday after a smoke warning required the evacuation of up to 141 passengers, a source from the airline said.

The incident occurred as the Kochi-bound Boeing 737-800 was taxiing, and following the alert, the source claimed the passengers were evacuated as a precaution.

All passengers were safely evacuated after smoke was detected in engine no. 2 of Air India Express flight (to Cochin) on the runway at Muscat airport. Relief flight to be arranged. We will investigate the incident and also take appropriate action: DGCA pic.twitter.com/L7w9yX4GrH

The source reported that the aircraft, which was transporting flight IX 442, had 141 passengers and six staff members on board.

According to an official, the event would be investigated by the aviation authority DGCA.

The source claimed that different plans are being developed to transport the travellers from Kochi to Muscat.
