Will remain MLA, asserts Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday dismissed speculations regarding his removal as MLA saying that he has not received any communication on the issue.

Earlier, the Election Commission of India (ECI) intimated its opinion to the state Governor Ramesh Bais on a plea seeking the removal of CM Soren as MLA. The plea alleged that the CM violated the law as he extended a mining lease to self.

The letter was sent on Wednesday in a sealed document. After which, the Governor referred the matter for poll panel.

A petition was filed by a Bharatiya Janata Party leader who sought disqualification of CM Soren alleging the extension of mine lease.

The hearing in the matter was concluded on Monday in the ECI.

On August 12, the legal team of Soren concluded its arguments before the Election Commission following which the BJP — the petitioner in the case — gave a rejoinder. On August 18, the two sides submitted their written submissions to the poll panel.

On Thursday Nishikant Dubey, BJP Member of Parliament from Godda, Jharkhand, tweeted that the letter from the ECI has reached the Raj Bhavan.
