Uttar Pradesh on alert over monkeypox virus

Monkeypox Virus: In view of the increasing number of patients infected with monkeypox across the world, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has also geared up to fight the disease.

A committee constituted under the chairmanship of Dr. RK Dhiman, Director, Sanjay Gandhi PGI, will decide the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The Covid-19 Task Force was also constituted under his chairmanship.

This task force will also work to protect against monkeypox. In the country, the work of preparing a new guideline has been intensified after the death of a person due to monkeypox in Kerala and the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global emergency in the past.

Every hospital has reserved 10 beds for monkeypox patients. A total of 2,150 beds have been arranged. A medical team will monitor the people coming in contact with monkeypox patients for 21 days.

Arrangements have been made to send samples to KGMU for testing. 80 thousand monitoring committees have also been alerted. People coming from abroad and other states are being monitored.

What is monkeypox?

Monkeypox virus is a rare viral infection similar to human smallpox. In 1958 it was first found in monkeys kept for research. The first case of this virus has been reported in 1970. The disease mainly occurs in tropical rainforest areas of Central and West Africa.

Frequent high fever.
Back and muscle pain.
Skin rash and rash.
Having itching problem.
General lethargy in the body.
Monkeypox virus starts in the face.
Infection usually lasts 14 to 21 days.

How does the monkeypox virus spread?

Monkeypox virus spreads from person to person. In such a situation, people should avoid physical contact. If an infected person or a person has symptoms of monkeypox, he should immediately contact a doctor.

The infected person should keep himself isolated till the treatment is completed. The monkeypox virus enters the body through the skin, eyes, nose or mouth.

It can also be transmitted by the bite of an infected animal, or by touching its blood, body fluids, or fur. What is the treatment of monkeypox: There is no cure for monkeypox virus. But the smallpox vaccine has proven to be 85 percent effective in preventing monkeypox. Monkeypox has been described by the UK Health Protection Agency as a low-risk virus.
