Washington Mass Shooting: Two people were killed and three others were injured in a shootout in northwest Washington DC on Wednesday afternoon. Police were called to North Capitol and O Street, Northwest shortly after the incident.
According to officials, two people were seriously injured in the firing, who were declared brought dead at the scene. Police said three other injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. All the victims are said to be adults.
A preliminary investigation found that at least two suspects got out of a “small, black SUV” in front of a building and began shooting with semi-automatic guns at people in the street.
“It was an open-air drug market, with officers regularly monitoring the area and making arrests for drug possession,” acting assistant police chief Ashan Benedict told reporters.
