Therefore, it is necessary to be aware of all important historical event that fall on a specific day so that none of the major historical events are missed.’Today’s History’ will look into the significant historical events and major happenings on that particular day of year.

On August 26, following events took place:

1910: Mother Teresa was born

Mother Teresa also known as Saint Teresa of Calcutta, was an Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun who, in 1950, founded and was an active member of the Missionaries of Charity. Although her passport name was Mary Teresa Bojaxhiu, she was born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in Skopje, capital of North Macedonia. After living in Skopje for eighteen years, she moved to Ireland and then to India, where she lived for most of her life.

1956: Politician Maneka Gandhi was born

Maneka Gandhi is an Indian politician, animal rights activist, and environmentalist. She is a member of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She is the widow of Indian politician Sanjay Gandhi. She has been a minister in four governments, most recently in Narendra Modi’s government from May 2014 to May 2019.

1987: Actress Rubina Dilaik birthday

Rubina Dilaik is an Indian actress who primarily works in Hindi television along with Hindi films. She made her acting debut in 2008 portraying Radhika in the popular show Chotti Bahu. She was then seen portraying Divya Jakhotia in Punar Vivah – Ek Nayi Umeed and Jeannie in Jeannie Aur Juju. Dilaik is best known for her portrayal of a transgender Soumya Harman Singh in Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki. In 2020, she participated in Bigg Boss 14 and emerged as the winner.

2022: Women’s Equality Day

August 26 was designated by the U.S. Congress as “Women’s Equality Day”. The date commemorates the 1920 certification of the nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. The day also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality.
