Power line kills three elephants in Mihintale

Three elephants have been killed after coming into contact with an illegally drawn power line by a farmer in the Mihintale area.

An elephant and two she-elephants had died after getting entangled in the illegally drawn power line from overhead cables by a farmer in Pudukkulama village to create a live wire fence around his farm to protect crops.

Although some farmers have built electric fences at their own expense to protect their farmlands, it is reported that many people who have economic difficulties are engaged in these unauthorized activities.

Chief Inspector Prasad Siriwardena said that after carrying out investigations, the person who responsible for the illegal power tapping will be arrested and legal proceedings will be taken.
