Customs officials arrested a Polish national at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday while in possession of 5kg cocaine worth Rs.245 million.
This passenger had arrived from Colombia on August 14 onboard flight QR 662 via Doha.
“The suspect was unable to locate the luggage that he had brought at that time. Later, he returned to the airport to pick up the luggage and the Customs officials checked it on suspicion,” Customs Deputy Director (Legal) and Media Spokesman Sudatta Silva said.
The cocaine had been concealed in several paper rolls inside a used fax machine.
The suspect and the narcotics was handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigations.
