The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) has started purchasing paddy for the Yala Season from Thursday (18). The PMB buys Nadu paddy at Rs.120 per kilo, Samba Paddy at Rs.125 and Keeri Samba paddy at Rs.130.
Under that, 55 warehouses belonging to the PMB were opened yesterday to buy paddy from the farmers in several districts where the harvest has been completed and in several districts where the harvest is being harvested.
Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, said that the Paddy Marketing Board Chairman has informed him that 209,600 kilogrammes of paddy was purchased on Thrusday by the PMB warehouses in Ampara District, Anuradhapura District and the Northern Province.
