National Dengue Control Programme from September 1 to 3

Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, Director of the National Dengue Mosquito Control Programme announced yesterday (August 16) that the National Dengue Control Programme will be implemented from September 1 to 3.

He also said that this national programme will be implemented in 60 MOH divisions in seven districts namely Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Ratnapura and Galle.

He stated that since the beginning of this year, 50,730 dengue infected people have been reported and on average, about 1,500 dengue infected people are reported per week.

He said that several mosquito control days were announced in May and that the number of infected people can be reduced by carrying out mosquito control activities.

He said that more than 51 percent of the reported dengue infected people are from the Western Province.

He also stated that the public should take steps to maintain the environment properly where they live so that mosquitoes cannot breed.
