New Delhi: Leading luxury automobile manufacturers anticipate that 2022 will surpass 2019 in terms of sales as high-end model demand stays strong.
Despite the current chip scarcity issues, the companies anticipate a strong festive season in terms of exports.
The industry’s strongest year to date for dispatches, domestic luxury car volumes in 2019 were over 40,000 units, the best ever.
“The industry has become more resilient and with the third wave of Covid not being so severe, there has been a steady revival,” Lexus India President Naveen Soni told PTI in an interaction.
In an interview with PTI, Lexus India President Naveen Soni said, “The sector has grown more resilient and with the third wave of Covid not being as harsh, there has been a slow resurgence.”
Soni remarked that both the industry and Lexus India had had successful starts to the new year.
“We are hoping that the demand for luxury cars will exceed the pre-pandemic level of 2019, which was the highest ever while the demand for Lexus in India has crossed our highest ever demand this July since the launch of operations in 2017,” he added.
When asked about festive season sales Soni stated: “We are looking at demand for Lexus cars to be three times of the best demand we have seen since the brand launch in 2017.” Lexus cars being hybrids are high on technology with higher dependence on semiconductor availability, however, the brand is trying its best to deliver cars to customers on time, he added.
Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, stated that due to the continued high level of customer satisfaction, the business anticipates that the strong sales momentum from the second quarter would carry over into the next holiday season.
Schwenk added that the company’s product introductions have not changed and that it will introduce the eagerly anticipated EQS luxury sedan during the holiday season in both its AMG and series versions.
Similar comments were echoed by Audi India, which said that demand has been steadily increasing over the past several months and that the automaker anticipates this trend to continue.
