New Delhi: The Commonwealth Games 2022 Lawn Bowls gold winner Lovely Choubey reveals her connection with the Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni.
The 4 Indian women created history in Birmingham by winning the first ever medal of the country in Lawn Bowls. The women’s four defeated South Africa in the finals by fighting a bottleneck competition.
Lawn Bowls champion has ‘connection’ with MS Dhoni
“Dhoni sir knows our coach in Ranchi and has come to see us at the greens twice over the years. We have a Dewri Mata temple close by, when he goes there he comes to see us as well. We had a chat about the sport as well. He said whenever he is in Australia he goes to play Lawn Bowls,” said Lovely Choubey.
The 38-year-old member of the team Lovely Choubey hails from Ranchi and revealed the influence former India captain MS Dhoni has had on her and her family. Lovely is a constable in Ranchi police.

“This is as big as the Olympics for us since lawn bowls are not part of the Summer Games. We lost the medal by one point four years ago but this time we have made up for that by making history. I hope this effort gives us some recognition,” Choubey added.
The group of 4 qualified for the finals on Sunday after New Zealand. The women have put forth an inspiring story by clinching the medal in Birmingham.
