JD(U) MLC Devesh Thakur becomes ‘unopposed’ chairperson of Bihar Legislative Council

Patna: Janata Dal(United) MLC Devesh Chandra Thakur was elected as the Chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council on Thursday.

The JD(U) leader was the only candidate to file nomination for the post. He will be taking charge from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Awdhesh Narayan Singh.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav, former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi along with other leaders of Grand Alliance accompanied Mahagathbandhan candidate Devesh Thakur for filing the nomination.

In 2002, Devesh Chandra Thakur was elected to the Upper house from Tirhut graduate constituency. He journey in JD (U) started in 2004.

Again in 2008, he was won election from the same constituency. He was given the Ministry of Disaster Management in Nitish Kumar government.

However in 2014, Thakur won a seat as an independent candidate but later re-joined JD (U) in 2020.
