Jammu and Kashmir: 6 Congress leaders follow Ghulam Nabi Azad, quit party

New Delhi: The resignation of senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad from the Congress has triggered a mini landslide within the party. Six leaders from the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress also quit the party hours after Nabi resigned.

All these leaders were former MLAs and were close to Ghulam Nabi Azad. Of them five leaders – GM Saroori, Haji Abdul Rashid, Mohd Amin Bhat, Gulzar Ahmad Wani and Choudhari Mohd Akram – announced their decision to resign from the Congress through a joint letter.

Later on Friday, RS Chib – yet another senior Congress leader from Jammu and Kashmir – also resigned from the party’s primary membership.

“Keeping in view in betterment of my state I feel that the congress party has failed to contribute in the absence of a deceive leader like @ghulamnazad who could guide the people of state for the betterment,hence I am Tendring my resignation from d primary membership of @INCIndia,” Chib said in a statement on Twitter.

In a letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, he announced his decision to step down from all posts he holds in the party.

Earlier this month, he had resigned as Jammu and Kashmir Congress Committee head hours after being appointed to the post.
