The Irrigation Department yesterday warned of the risk of flooding along the Nilwala and Kalu Rivers due to the prevailing rainy weather conditions.
He urged people living in lowlands close to the Kalu and Nilwala Rivers in the Divisional Secretariat divisions of Ratnapura, Nivithigala, Kuruvita, Ayagama, Alapatha, Pasgoda, Kotapola, Pitabeddara Akurassa, Malimbada, Tihagoda, Matara, Kamburupitiya, Mulatiyana and Devinuwara to remain alert.
The Irrigation Department has said significant flooding may occur in the next 24 hours, and the public must take precautions.
