Four held for attempt to sell diesel bowser load in Meegoda

Meegoda Police on Tuesday night arrested four persons with a bowser, containing 6,600 litres of Diesel, for allegedly attempting to illegally sell the Diesel load in the bowser for Rs.6 million in Watareka, Meegoda. The fuel bowser belongs to a reputed company. Police investigations revealed that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) had hired it to transport fuel. Among the arrested were the driver of the fuel bowser and his assistant and they are employees of the relevant company. Two other individuals, who are sales managers of a reputed insurance and electronic items company, have also been arrested for their involvement in the racket.

The fuel bowser had been released from the Muthurajawela Storage Complex documenting that it was to be sent to a factory in the Free Trade Zone in Katunayake. The raid was made following a tip-off received by the Police. The Police said the racket had been continuing for a long time and some corrupt officials of the CPC had also helped it.
